“My First Oregon Brewers Festival” movie, July 5th

The upcoming Oregon Brewer’s Festival marks the 25th year anniversary of the event.  Along with other anniversary activities, one special event is the premiere of a movie about the festival called “My First Oregon Brewers Festival,”

The Oregon Brewers Guild is kicking off Oregon Craft Beer Month with the premiere of a movie about the Oregon Brewers Festival, which will celebrate its 25th year this July 26-29. The film, called “My First Oregon Brewers Festival,” (trailer found here) celebrates the wildly successful Oregon Brewers Festival and includes a number of interviews with Oregon brewers and industry members. Running time is just over an hour.

Prior to the screening, there will be a panel discussion featuring OBF director & founder Art Larrance (Portland Brewing back then, now with Cascade Brewing); co-founders Kurt & Rob Widmer of Widmer Brothers Brewing Co; Karl Ockert, former brewmaster at BridgePort Brewing–one of the other co-founding breweries–and current Technical Director for the Master Brewers Association of the Americas; and Fred Eckhardt, beer writer who reported on the festival in its earliest days. The panel discussion will be moderated by Lisa “The Beer Goddess” Morrison, host of Beer O’Clock radio and longtime beer writer. This is a rare chance for people to engage with these Oregon brewing pioneers and find out what the festival was like the first couple years.

The event will take place on Thursday, July 5 at McMenamins Mission Theater, 1624 Northwest Glisan St in Portland. Doors open at 6 pm. Panel begins at 7 pm. Movie begins at 7:45 pm. This is a 21+ only event and there is no cover charge. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to 300 people. There will be beers available by McMenamins, along with guest taps from Widmer, Cascade and BridgePort.
